    The Content Editor is a highly specialized, senior manager level position within the Baker Tilly firm marketing team. Make your mark as we develop a national Content Center of Excellence. Collaborate with marketing colleagues and subject matter experts to plan strategic content that generates demand and builds brand with target audiences. Produce high quality, engaging content that contributes to the growth of firm industry and service practices. Manage any content projects outsourced to agencies or freelance writers. Craft content best practices for marketing colleagues to follow. Ideal candidates are collaborative, thrive in a team environment, possess strong writing skills and have previous journalism or publishing experience.

    Responsibilities

    Strategic content planning

    • Work with Chief Marketing Officer, firm practices marketing director & digital director to develop a national Content Center of Excellence that aligns content themes and assets to the needs of target audiences
    • Support the articulation and communication of content strategy to stakeholders
    • In collaboration with marketing colleagues and subject matter experts, build and execute content strategies that support business objectives and extend national marketing initiatives
    • Work closely with digital director to develop content strategies and maximize distribution
    • Develop content that drives awareness and generates leads to support the growth of firm industry and service practices
    • Co-lead significant content projects, strategize options to integrate content with demand generation and brand building campaigns, create compelling content to meet goals and support the buying process, develop and maintain editorial calendar and manage content development
    • Contribute to discussions regarding relevant illustrations and graphic design to support copy
    • Analyze content engagement results, target audience buying behavior, industry insights and competitive information, discuss and refine strategies and implement changes as needed
    • Develop editorial operations to scale capacity with a critical focus on quality
    • Develop best practices for marketing colleagues to follow when they are creating content such as hot topic alerts, regulatory updates and newsletter articles
    • Advise colleagues on how to repurpose and maximize content
    • Hire and manage any content projects outsourced to agencies or freelance writers
    • Ensure content provides value to the target audience while meeting our business objectives
    • Give final approval of significant content for online posting or offline publishing

    Copywriting and editing

    • Conduct topic research using online sources
    • Interview internal subject matter experts (SMEs)
    • Write engaging copy aligned with content marketing and search engine marketing (SEM) strategies
    • Review select pieces written by others and edit as needed to increase clarity
    • Optimize copy for search engines
    • Understand and execute the Baker Tilly brand in all strategies and tactics

    Perform other responsibilities as assigned

    • Participate in marketing taskforces and special projects
    • Other writing and editing duties as assigned

    Maintain and expand knowledge base in area of expertise

    • Make continual improvements to the Content Center of Excellence and evolve the firm’s content marketing strategies over time as needed
    • Participate in professional organizations and independent study
    • Integrate new knowledge, skills and best practices into daily work and share with colleagues as appropriate
    • Become acknowledged and sought out by others due to extensive, in-depth knowledge and expertise in developing high quality content

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English, creative writing, or related field
    • Exceptional writing and editing skills and minimum of ten (10) years professional writing experience in English
    • Previous work experience as a content editor, journalist or publisher with excellent people skills
    • Portfolio of published work demonstrating ability to inform or compel readers to action
    • Hands-on experience effectively managing editorial calendars, content development processes, writing resources, concurrent projects and deadlines
    • Strategic thinker with an understanding of content marketing, SEO and keyword research
    • Experience developing and managing editorial governance for consistency with brand in voice, style and tone
    • Strong work ethic and superior professionalism and judgment
    • Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment that requires timely adjustments when business priorities change
    • Resourceful in addressing challenges and solving problems
    • Excellent organizational skills, keen attention to detail and experience using the Microsoft Office Suite
