    Baker Tilly’s NY Matrimonial Forensics group in Manhattan, New York is seeking an Intern to join its team beginning in August/September 2018 and work through the remainder of the academic year. Interns will learn and use the basic systems and procedures of the Firm and the NY Matrimonial/Valuation group.  Interns will gain knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices and procedures, and will begin to utilize them to conduct forensic financial analyses under the direction of senior staff members.  Interns have a unique job which will require strong analytical, creative, investigative, research, organizational and critical thinking skills.

     

    Matrimonial/Valuation is one of the fastest growing and exciting areas in the accounting and financial professions. Professionals provide support to attorneys to quantify and opine on complex financial issues in litigation matters, such as:

    • Fraud & white collar crime
    • Intellectual property infringements
    • Professional negligence
    • Contract disputes
    • Construction disputes
    • Valuation Services
    • Matrimonial Services
    • Forensic Accounting

    Responsibilities

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

    • Work will be closely supervised by the staff in charge of an engagement and will follow instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Coaching and training in a controlled and closely supervised environment will allow the employee to perform some of the required tasks of an engagement assignment. 
    • Assist members of the Professional Staff in conducting and performing forensic financial analysis, building financial models, maintaining documents produced in litigation, summarizing depositions, assisting in writing Expert Reports, and performing quality control procedures on schedules and reports.
    • Assist senior staff members with business development initiatives, including preparing presentations, proposals, and qualifications packages.
    • Be responsible for the inventory and filing of documents, preparation of summary of analyses of personal and corporate tax returns, financial statements, and other workpapers in connection with valuation and forensic engagements.

    Qualifications

    Successful candidates will:

    • Be enrolled as a full-time student during the 2018/2019 school year pursuing either a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting (or a related field).  
    • Ability to start in August/September 2018 and work a part-time schedule for the duration of the fall months.
    • Students pursuing 150 college credits are preferred.
    • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
    • Ability to work as part of a team. 
    • Outstanding academic performance with a minimum overall GPA of a 3.0 required with at least a 3.2 GPA preferred.
    • Relevant internship, work experience and/or involvement with a professional organization.
    • Excellent written/verbal communication and collaboration skills necessary to effectively interface with all levels of Firm management, staff, clients, and other external business contacts.
    • Be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship during the intern program and as a full-time employee.
